In a 3-2 verdict, the Supreme Court struck down the practice of instant triple talaq, a practice in which Muslim men can divorce their wives by uttering ‘talaq’ thrice in quick succession. Census 2011 data shows the gender difference in divorce rates—males/females divorced as a percentage of ever-married male/female population—is the highest among Muslims, followed by Buddhists.
