The World Economic Forum released its Global Competiveness Index for 2017-18. Compared to 2016-17, there is no change in the list of countries in the top 10, though there is movement within, with United States and Singapore swapping places and Hong Kong rising from 9 to 6. China was ranked 27 (up from 28 in 2016-17) and India was ranked 40 (down from 39). The index studies countries on 12 “pillars”, including institutions, infrastructure, macroeconomic environment and goods market efficiency, among others.
